How to fix a sprained ankle and keep moving!November 19, 2013
Most of us have had a “sprained ankle” at some stage. Did you think by just resting it for a couple of weeks it would be fine?
More and more research is showing that people with untreated ankle sprains much earlier in life have permanent loss of ankle Dorsiflexion. (Dorsiflexion is the ability of your shin bone to move forward on the ankle bone.)
All lateral ankle ‘sprains” require RICER for the first 3 -4 days.
By 7-10 days the ankle will no longer be inflamed but more stiff. This is the critical stage for loosening ankle bones to restore dorsiflexion.
That single session or two at 7-10 days post injury to loosen the ankle is the best money you will ever spend. Now and in future.
