Push ups are an awesome upper body and core exercise, but don’t let it worsen imbalances around the shoulder. The computer age means most people are imbalanced; shoulder internal rotators are shortened and become stronger than the weaker external rotators. Doing push ups with the elbows tucked in preferentially strengthens these weakers external rotators. It also helps to improve strength in the inner pec muscles. Because it is harder than an ordinary push, to start with you can do them on your knees or use a bench.
