Superior Posterior… or Pain in the Butt?November 12, 2013
Physio Foam Rollers are only half the solution to managing overuse injuries.
Firstly I must say that at Proactive we sell a lot of short and long “rollers’. Anyone who saw the recent AFL and NRL grand finals would have seen a lot of the players also rolling on these very same big, blue rollers before both games.
These rollers are great for releasing tight/overactive muscles. The most common muscles that require releasing are in the Anterior-lateral chain (ITB/TFL, piriformis and QL).
It is important not to forget that these muscles get so tight because the Posterior-medial chain is not pulling its fair share of the load, not doing the work it should be!
So as well as rolling the ITB you should be doing some activation of the Posterior-medial chain with some Dead Lifts / Running Man exercises etc.
For further help in releasing these tight/overactive muscles come see us at Proactive Physio. Your body will thank you for it :-)
