To rest or not to rest with an injury???November 12, 2013
Have to rest and stop playing sport? Maybe not the case….
It was good to hear Melbourne Physio and French Physician talk about Pubic Symphasis problems at the Physio conference in Melbourne I attended recently.
Andrew in particular has come up with a more specific diagnosis for everything that was once lumped into the term “oestitis pubis”. He actually devised 8 definite sub groups. These sub groups all have a different prognosis, requiring different exercises programs and last for different time frames. Some of the categories can be treated without stopping sport, while others require up to 6 weeks rehab before returning to sport. It is therefore critical you know which sub-group you have.
If you or your family/ friends have been diagnosed with “oestitis pubis” ask them whether they know what sub type they have and did they know they may be able to do exercises and not stop playing sport.
If they do not know…. tell them to come down to Proactive Physio and Pilates. We can help them to keep moving and doing the things they love.
