Want relief for knee and hip pain?November 12, 2013
Low resistance/ high cadence cycling is the best treatment for Osteoarthritis (OA) in the hips and knees and trying to delay surgery.
Yes 15-20 minutes a day of high cadence/low resistance is without doubt the single best management strategy for an OA knee.
The low resistance movement helps break up the excess build up of protein in the knee joint fluid. This protein is responsible for pain/discomfort when the knee is “cold’. It is often felt when the person tries to move after prolonged sitting and sleep.
Low resistance/ high cadence cycling also relaxes tight power muscles that spasm due to the pain caused by the build up of protein. It also helps strengthen the stabilizing muscles that weaken due to this same pain. If you keep your body weight down and do this cycling for just 15 minutes per day, 6 days week you hopefully will become pain free….Even if you don’t your knee is in a much healthier state to have them replaced.
It’s a no Brainer! Keep moving, keep well :-)
